Tasting - Burgans Albarino

For my third tasting, I chose an Albarino wine.  I purchased this wine because I had never heard of this variety before, and I thought that the label looked neat.  Here's my overall review of the Burgans Albarino!

Name: Burgans Albarino

Variety: Albarino

Country of Origin: Spain

Region of Origin: Val Do Salnés

Vintage Year: 2020

Price: $19.99

Kroger Wine Review: A uniquely fruity aroma highlighting hints of ripe apples, apricots, and peach aromas.  It is rich, mellow and well-balanced.  The aftertaste is fully rounded and off dry on the palate with juicy fruit flavors, clean acidity and a long, mineral-dominated finish.  (90 pts, Decanter).

Wine Folly: Referenced from page 74, Albarino.  I spent a bit more than the recommended amount of $12 on this bottle.  I definitely got scents of fruit and saline.  Strong tastes of mineral and saline on the palate.  The high acidity and low sweetness of this wine were noted.  I did try this wine with fish tacos, as recommended, which was really good!  I preferred the wine with food.

Personal Review: I was very surprised by the acidity of the wine.  It had dry scents of rubber and an undertone of fruit.  My friend, Emma, described the scent as having an "undertone of urine."  In my opinion, it smelled almost like beer.  Bold taste on the palate with mineral and fruity flavors.  I tried the wine with salmon fish tacos, which helped to cut the intensity.  I would not recommend this wine on its own but thought that it paired well with fish tacos.
