Tasting - Tilia Malbec
To kickstart my wine tasting journey, I asked all of my friends to tell me what wine they enjoy the most. I wanted to get an idea of the different types of wines that other people appreciate and to gain a better understanding of that specific wine variety. My friend and roommate, Paula, only drinks red wines. Her go-to wine is a Malbec, so I bought us a bottle to taste. Here is our overall review of the Tilia Malbec!
Name: Tilia Malbec
Variety: Malbec
Country of Origin: Argentina
Region of Origin: Mendoza
Vintage Year: 2020
Price: $13.99
Kroger Wine Review: Fresh blueberry, blackberry, pine-needle and crushed-stone aromas. It's medium-bodied with sleek tannins and a smooth, rounded finish. (90 pts, James Suckling).
Wine Folly: Referenced from pages 125 and 126, Malbec. I got the red fruit notes and medium-body. Main scents of blueberry with earthy undertones. Primary flavors of black and red fruits, which I tasted. Strong red and black berry flavors with graphite undertones. I did not taste the herbal notes of raspberry leaf or yerba mate. I did not decant for 30 minutes, as recommended.
Personal Review: I personally chose this specific Malbec based on the label - I thought it was pretty - and the reasonable price. There were quite a few Malbec options at Kroger to choose from, but this one stood out to me. I honestly have not had much experience with red wines in the past and had never tried Malbec before. I was pleasantly surprised by this particular wine. It's delicious with flavors of red berry and an almost graphite undertone. Smooth overall. I will definitely drink this particular wine again.
Paula's Thoughts: Paula noted the body of the wine (medium-bodied) and the taste overall. She stated, "it went down smooth with a taste that doesn't last too long in the mouth. It's soft and subtle, but still has a great taste."
