Tasting - Cuvée Tradition Gigondas

For my second tasting of the week, I tried the Domaine du Gour de Chaule Cuvée Tradition Gigondas.  I wanted to try more old-world wines, and this was a perfect example of an old-world wine.  I purchased this specific bottle at Wine Lab, per John Boyer's recommendation.  It was absolutely delicious and I wish that I bought a full, standard bottle!  Here's my overall review of this Gigondas:

Name: Domaine du Gour de Chaule Cuvée Tradition Gigondas

Variety: Gigondas Blend - 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre

Country of Origin: France

Region of Origin: Gigondas

Vintage Year: 2014

Price: $20 for a half bottle

Winemaker Notes: "This wine is sturdy, braced with sweet, dusty tannins, and is intensely aromatic with notes of crushed white pepper, oriental spices, and game."

Wine Folly: Referenced from pages 117 and 118 - Grenache, and pages 172 and 173 - Syrah.  I got the notes of strawberry (Grenache), plum (Grenache and Syrah), and milk chocolate (Syrah).  Hints of tobacco and blueberry (Syrah).  A medium-bodied wine with high tannins and strong, savory flavors.

Personal Wine Review:  I absolutely loved this wine.  Scents of milk chocolate, strawberry, plum, and blueberry on the nose.  Flavors of tobacco, chocolate, strawberries, and plum on the palate.  Hints of vanilla, leather, and spices at the finish.  Medium-bodied, tannic wine with a smooth finish.  Delicious!
