Tasting - JM Fonseca Twin Vines Vinho Verde
For my first tasting this week, I tried the JM Fonseca Twin Vines Vinho Verde. After tasting the Broadbent Vinho Verde last week, I wanted to compare it to another Vinho Verde. I've actually had this vineyard's Vinho Verde wine previously, but not this specific bottle or vintage. I remember enjoying this wine in the past, but that was before I knew more about wine tasting in general! Here's my overall review of the Twin Vines Vinho Verde:
Name: JM Fonseca Twin Vines Vinho Verde
Variety: Vinho Verde Blend: 42% Loureiro, 39% Trajadura, and 19% Pederna.
Country of Origin: Portugal
Region of Origin: Vinho Verde
Vintage Year: 2020
Price: $12.99
Shop Wine Direct Wine Tasting Notes: "Pale straw with green highlights. Fresh aromas of lemon, melon, and green apple. Slightly spritzy and lively on the palate, with refreshing citrus fruit flavors. This versatile, crisp wine pairs well with chicken, light pasta entrees, seafood, and salads."
Wine Folly: Referenced from page 184, Vinho Verde. Strong floral and fruity scents, which were very pleasant. Strong scent of white blossom and citrus. Tastes of floral, apple, and light citrus on the palate. I served this wine ice cold, as recommended.
Personal Wine Review: I tried this wine both on its own and with gnocchi in a light vodka sauce. I enjoyed it both individually and paired with pasta. The light vodka sauce definitely balanced out the acidity of this wine a bit, which was nice! This Vinho Verde was a bit sweeter than the Broadbent vinho verde, with stronger notes of floral and apple. Overall, I really enjoyed this wine, and my friends did too!
